93 km (58 miles) – Total so far: 1,248 km (775 miles)
Hilly morning and flatter afternoon with some surprise curvy rises coming at unwanted times.
I found it tough to get started today for the first time, but once riding no problems. It was hotter this afternoon than usual. My planning needs to improve, so the day is done by 13:30 hrs.
The plan is to try and have a week of riding in Sicily, so to cross either late on 7th or early on 8th. That means 2 more quite long days beforehand.
After asking several people, I was assured there was no wifi bars in town, and certainly none in the pension. After wandering around for half an hour I managed to find a signal without security on it, the local computer shop, so quickly uploaded this!
Total distance 93.0 km, Max Speed 50.4 km/hr, Moving time 4hrs 56 mins, Moving average 18.8 km/hr, Left Maratea at 9:40 hrs and arrived Paola at 15:45 hrs.
Elevation gained 741 metres.

View of Maratea this morning – the morning after the conclusion of their film festival. Broadcast live on national TV it is quite a respectable affair, and held outdoors in a convent in the middle of town.

Lunch is fruit stop – cant eat anything else in the heat

Paola – probably most famous for an event in the 2nd World War –
In the final days of the war, while almost all the citizens of the city were hiding from the air raids by Allied bomber aeroplanes inside the Monastery of St. Francis of Paola, an 80 kg iron-core bomb fell right in the middle of the agglomeration, but didn’t detonate, a fact widely reported as a miracle.
