Day 19: L’Islet-sur-mer to Quebec City

95 km (59 miles) – Total so far: 1,903 km (1,182 miles)

You may be deceived into thinking that southerly wind is prevailing and another hard day was in store. I was. What a difference a day makes. Overcast and dull but still this morning and the first 64 kilometres in 2 hrs 40 minutes. After a drinks break at Beaumont it was into Levis and the ferry across the St Lawrence river into the city. I am staying at the Laval University so there was some more distance to do, and up to the university.

La Salicorne cafe in L’Islet I can recommend highly. Best eating place yet, and good Quebec beers.

Distance 95 kilometres Max Speed 48.4 km / hr Ride Time 4 hrs 15 mins Average Speed 21.3 km / hr Departed 9:00 hrs Arrive 3:00 pm

Good camp spot – Maritime museum

Drinks stop at Beaumont

Route Verde 1 – bit of a con, why is it different to any other road? There is no real bike track here, just a bit of shoulder, and occasionally that disappears

The city from the bike track in Levis

By ferry across the river – here at Quebec City the river is not an estuary any more, still key for shipping as we know from school geography lessons, but only a 10 minute crossing

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
