92 km (57 miles) – Total so far: 2,116 km (1,315 miles)
Earlier finish today which is much needed, and will give me a chance to celebrate the Ashes win. I left with a rainy lunch and just caught up at Windsor cycling up to the Tim Horton’s restaurant window to use their wifi about an hour ago.
Bike attention was necessary this morning. A spoke twanged yesterday afternoon and I went into town to get it sorted just after they had opened. The first place said they would do it this afternoon, but the second place, Reno’s, did it straight away. The guy also gave the bike a once over come check up, and all is good. The gear able is worn which accounts for the jumping around occasionally, but it will last the trip. The work took about half an hour and the shop and mechanic is highly recommended. 236 Rue Notre Dame Est, the middle of town. After a strong and very decent coffee it was back to Route Verde 1.
The wind had dropped a bit but was still there, and the first 30 km were almost as tough, thankful again for the tree lined route. Through Warwick and Danville, and after that the route is much more attractive and more fun riding. Their are even some bends in the trail. There is a rural section with just a few farms dotted around, and sections of the old railway line pass through small gorges and even go up and down hill a bit. At Richmond the track hits the river Saint Francois. On the north side of the bridge the place is called Richmond, on the south it is called Melbourne. Intense rivalry I expect, especially on days like today. I didn’t see many people, so I guess they were all inside watching the closing overs.
Route Verde 1 now heads south-east, and gives the rider a break from the wind. As it was from the south-west it isn’t a tail wind, but it was a lot better than riding directly into it. This is now not a quick track, but a fun track, lots of ups and downs, and very scenic as it flows the river upstream. The surface isn’t easy either, sandy in many places, but it is good riding. Through Windsor, catch up the cricket score and on to Brompton just north of Sherbrooke city, which I am trying to avoid, it’s big, and the Canadian games is on their at the moment.
