Day 29: Norway – Riding some circles

In 2001 as a group of 14 (with 12 students from school) we biked the length of France, from St Marie de la Mer to Calais. Dangerous though it was, we cycled round each roundabout twice. It took the students a while and some abuse from them before they latched on to this, but I am sure they still do it now when they ride, 12 years later. Also, if stopped for any length of time due to repairs, fatigue or complaining, I would often ride in circles. Sometimes I would be followed, until it was realised we were back were we started. It put the mileage up although dizziness soon set in.

I don’t need to be in Portland until tomorrow so took advantage of one more day in the Applachians. A circuit of the lake here, Pennesseewassee, and followed Crooked River back to town. I thought for a while I was fitter, but then realised that my bike weighed 8 kgs and not 22 kgs as usual.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
