Day 23 – Hirsthals to Nibe

61 miles (99 km) – Total so far: 1,347 miles (2,168 km)

For once I had an early start, as I decided on breakfast in Hjorring. It was Sunday morning and practically nothing was open, nor was there anyone around. The 7-11 at the station sufficed for a coffee.

There are obviously no hills here which make things considerably different, but I was into a strong south-westerly all day, the forecast said 20-30 mph. It was certainly hard work on some sections. I stopped for a while in Aalborg, so didn’t follow the coast road all the way down, partly for some variety, and partly to escape the wildest of the wind. Heading into Aalborg there was steady drizzle for a couple of hours. Leaving Aalborg after a break, mid-afternoon I was in Nibe by 6, into some of the strongest winds of the day. I have used a campsite tonight, for the kitchen facility to stay out the wind mainly, and there are not so many spots otherwise here. It’s expensive though, I had been warned that it is more expensive for camping here than Norway and it certainly seems the case. Apparently a camping card is necessary, at 110 DKR. It’s a decent and quiet spot though on the fjord.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
