Adventures between Thessaloniki and Nuremberg
14 miles (23 km) – Total so far: 14 miles (23 km)
I wasn’t looking forward to this, always a stressful couple of days.
I took the last train from Penrith to Manchester Airport getting me there at just after 11. I found a vacant couple of chairs in Terminal 1 Arrivals and read for a while, before an hour of dozing, and check-in at 3am. EasyJet was a lot smoother experience this time. The automised check-in was rapid and was border control and security. Some benefits to travelling so early, though inside the departure lounge at 3:30am its as busy as usual, and could be anytime of day. A new aircraft arriving 15 minutes early was also good news.

I put the bike together in the Train station, a bit cooler than the 32C outside,

And took a quick ride around Thessaloniki – a typical Southern European city baking in the summer heat

Then the train to Edessa

350 meters up in the mountains and it’s much cooler in Edessa. Late 20s but less humid also.
It looks a great place to start off – will report back later on what seems tremendous food and drink opportunities
