Day 8 – Andrijevica to Dobrilovina

59 miles (95 km) – Total so far: 466 miles (750 km)

Excellent stay at the Komovi Hotel. There was a group of hikers staying there also, and a couple from Netherlands hiking, as well as a Dutch guy biking. There was a good buffet on last night also. The manager was particularly helpful, really interested to hear how I had crossed the border as he said tensions are very high at the moment. The Dutch guy was heading to Kosovo and wanted to go that way also when I told him. These wee Montegrin border police anyway, so they surely would be less bothered about him leaving. I left him and the manager trying to sort it out, on the telephone to the police.

…and it’s a climb straight out of town. 750 metres up to a high point of 1560 over 20 km.
A cool morning that’s going to get warm soon, but the switchbacks usually offer plenty of shade.

At the top. Took me 2 and a half hours, pretty good for me…

The pass is almost empty of motorists. A wonderful road to ride.
10 kilometres out of Kolasin town it joins a much busier road.
It descends also, through a tunnel about 250 meters with a curve.
I had read warnings about these, but forgotten…
A car with no lights went past me and I hit the kerb, not falling but stumbling, got off the bike before it went over. No damage done it seemed, at least to me.
In the light I saw that the backrack had lost a screw and bolt.
As I was looking at it a couple of guys came over and helped. One was a student and had good English, the other his grandfather.

In Kolasin I get the screw I need. And incredible attention from the shop owner. After the minor repair, he wants me to wait, to show me his own bike. No charge either. Wonderful people.

Then a bit of lunch…

And a 25 km ride to Mojkovac. It’s slightly downhill, but a busy road.
On these roads I notice I feel tiredness. Strangely much less on the long climbs. It’s just down to the traffic. As I get older I notice it more and more.

Just before Mojkovac I head left towards the Tara Gorge, and two more climbs before finish.
It’s a lot quieter road now, and in the late afternoon, quite beautiful.

The picture doesn’t show the 300 metre drop off the unguarded road, down to the river.

I’m staying at Dobrilovina.
There is a camping / restaurant / hotel place in the village, but my good friends Hugh and Pauline were here just a few weeks ago, and recommended the Restaurant Izlet, and it has a small cabin, at 9 Euro. Perfect for me, and I am made very welcome.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
