74 miles (119 km) – Total so far: 1,073 miles (1,727 km)

Leaving Jesenice this morning. Steep mountains on either side of it, but it’s far from a beautiful town. It’s industrial, and looks like it once was even more so from the derelict buildings in parts of the town.

Straight away though, on to a bike path that’s away from the road and spectacular scenery from the Triglavski National Park.
The path climbs about 300 metres over 25 km, steadily, but some nice little surprises in places, of 18 and 20% grades.

It’s an old train line. So often they make great bike paths.

A couple of hours excellent riding and into Kranjska Gora.
It’s historic buildings and backdrop of spectacular mountains bring many visitors.
It’s quite quiet this morning though, no doubt the return to school factor.

It’s big motorcycling territory, and particularly Harley Davidson.
An all year round resort also with its skiing.

A quick few kilometres in Italy.

Twenty minutes only, and back into Austria.
I’ll be on this bike path / radweg for the next few days.

Into the city of Villach for lunch.

The centre of Villach.

It’s a flat afternoon.
35 kilometres along the River Drau. The flattest part of this course.
The riding does get repetitive after only a short time for me, and I’m missing those hills. I know there’s many who appreciate flat cycling.
