Day 27 – Bad Gastein to Hallein

56 miles (90 km) – Total so far: 1,166 miles (1,876 km)

It’s expensive here of course in the Austrian Alps.
Breakfast from the supermarket, and it’s 8 Euros. 2.50 for coffee.
Compare that to 20 p in Bosnia not much more than a week ago…

Forecast is rain all day.
It’s threatening, but nothing yet.

On this descent the bikes get their own tunnel even.
I’m still on at Alps – Adria radweg, or part of Eurovelo 7.

There’s quite a few other bike tourers on the path.
At least 50% are eBikes, this is certainly a booming market.
It’s no wonder that when the path goes into a housing area there are signs to slow down.

…I’ve stumbled around the side of twelve misty mountains…

…and pretty soon, a hard rain does fall.

Passing through the town of Werfen, with its castle on the hill.

It’s a beautiful bit of road as it climbs the Pass Lueg, but there is no shoulder and no bike path.
It’s moderately busy with traffic only, but would be a proper pain if thee were more.
It’s been the only really exposed part of this bike trail, Eurovelo 7, the Adria – Alipine radweg.

A quick snack and respite from the heavy rain.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
