Day 18 – Ust Chorna to Kolochava: Pryslip Pass

16 miles (26 km) – Total so far: 874 miles (1,407 km)

Leaving Ust Chorna this morning.
I cycled the couple of kilometres into ‘town ‘ last night for something to eat and back in the dark.

I’m a fair bit ahead of my schedule so took my time this morning and finished a Kurkov book before departing at just after 11.

Gentle incline at first up the River Chorna valley through the villages of Ruska Mokra and German Mokra.
These villages are quite isolated especially in winter, as they are hemmed in by two steep and rough passes.

Warming up quickly today after a cool night at 530 metres. Storms forecast for later

After German Moskra the road becomes very stony and starts to climb.

As steep as 20% in places this is a tough climb, but more rewarding than yesterday with the spectacular views.
Here (above), looking down on the road below.

At Pryslip Pass at 941 metres and 15 kilometres after just under 2 hours.

Looking down on Kolochava

I haven’t come across many touring cyclists so far, but these 5 from Belorus caught up with me on the downhill. We chatted for a while. They have been camping above the treeline for a few days. Great to meet them.

Just as the storm arrives…perfect excuse for a short day.

All that, and the storm meant I got in in time to watch the last hour or so of a famous Ashes win from Headingley..

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
