Day 20 – Mizhhir’ya to Volovets: Guklivii Pass

27 miles (43 km) – Total so far: 934 miles (1,503 km)

View from the balcony of the place I stayed this morning.
Weather pattern is similar at the moment; misty morning, sun breaks through and soon gets warm, humidity builds, storm late afternoon, cleared evening. It’s not bad conditions, but by mid afternoon it’s early 30s and hot.
Not the Lada.. they appear a lot.

This morning steadily up the Repinka River valley.

At the Guklivii Pass at 800 metres, a road climb on a rare half-decent surface.

Base for tonight and a day off tomorrow is an ex-military barracks turned to a hotel.
This area is popular with cyclists from Czech, Poland, Slovakia and the hotel specialises in that area.
Around here has been the Ukrainian MTB Championships in the last few years also.
It’s pretty quiet now though – schools are back on Monday and children are registering for courses, there is a noticeable drop in the amount of tourists around.

I’m in a village, Huklyvyi, a few kilometres east of Volovets.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
