Day 27 – Ochotnica Dolna to Zakopane

34 miles (55 km) – Total so far: 1,249 miles (2,010 km)

It looks like summer’s over.
What a difference from the temperatures in the early 30s a couple of days ago, rain and 12C.
I was away early. The accommodation wasn’t great, noisy neighbours..
Not a long day today, just as well with the weather.

To begin with, a 300 metre climb on the Droga Knurowska.
The road has a history back to 1416, but was properly created in 1911, meaning a much more manageable gradient. It’s about 4 – 8%, whereas previously it had several very steep up and down sections on both sides.

On a clearer day, there are views of several mountain ranges: Gorce, Beskid Sądecki, Pieniny, Magura Spiska, Lewockie Mountains and the full panorama of the Tatra Mountains…. but, not today.

The Knurowska pass at 846 metres.
A cold and wet downhill ahead..

Almost avoiding the major roads, which are busy, and quite unpleasant in the heavy rain, I got to Zakopane.
I’ve a day off planned here, the first since Day 10.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
