Day 14 – To Glenbrittle Forest

Day 14 – To Glenbrittle Forest

Rain was on its way but we managed to fit in steady bike ride on forest trails up above Glen Nevis.

It’s still hard work getting back on the bike, a blend of cramp of the psoas, IT band and sciatica. A summer of stretching, physio and slow improvement ahead, but those long bikepacking days are a fair way off.

As I was putting the bike away I got talking to an 85 year old guy walking his dogs, which included a black lab off his lead. I had to get Roja’s food out, and the dog came over and sniffed it. Needless to say Roja wasn’t happy, and showed his displeasure. Fortunately we kept them apart. My fault though, mire care in the future.

On into Fort William to the supermarket and refuel the. The road up to Skye that I have taken so many times before. I was first on the island in my early 20s, 35 years ago. The place has changed so much that it soils those old memories. For example, a stop at the Slagachan Hotel for a beer in their garden. I had groups here at Easters and we were welcomed to camp on the grass immediately outside the pub, as the site over the road was still closed for the season. Nowadays the campsite is upgraded (though not currently open) and a minimum of £25 a night, with £5.50 a pint..

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
