Day 74 – to Fuentecén

Day 74 – to Fuentecén

The unfortunate reality of my 90 day allowance is that the end is in sight, and I still have quiet a bit of distance to be covered. I have been invited to Provence in the last days running up to 1st December to stay with some friends who are house-sitting for their daughter; friends from Sedbergh who I know through cycling, they stayed with me in Chile when cycling in the first year of retirement. At this stage I don’t want to drive for long periods, I’ll save that until the final push home, and with that in mind planned to cover some distance today. I’m heading next for the Sierra de Cebollera, inland from Bilbao.

I found a waterfall walk in the morning in the Douro Natural Park (Cascata da Faie d’Agua Alta), and though there was no water, the canyon was impressive, as indeed was the path, carved into the rock face.

The dog really doesn’t like any sort of boarded walkway, especially bridges..

I crossed the river at Bemposta, then headed past Zamora, Valladolid, and stopped at a truck park just before Aranda de Duero. I drove for just over 3 hours, and while I did, the temperate dropped. Instead of those pleasant days of 18C and 7 or so at night, now there are highs of just 5 or 6 degrees, and well below freezing at night.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
