Day 81 – at Eygalières

Day 81 – at Eygalières

The highlight of the day was the hike on the ridge of the Chaîne des Alpilles on the GR 6. It all began so tamely leaving the parking, but after a couple of kilometres takes a left turn to climb up to the ridge. Much of the short climb, just some 200 metres, is on bare rock, and requires ‘hands on’, for me at least. Maybe it would not be described as a scramble, but it is certainly more than a walk. And indeed that continued as the ridge is reached, in fact the three of four kilometres along the limestone peaks is quite thrilling, with some exposure at times, but always fantastic views.

I managed to fit this in before the rain came, though it was not intentional. Just as I got back to the van for lunch it got wet, and continued on and off for the rest of the day.

Luigi’s was more welcome even than last night on a cool and rainy evening. I got chatting to an American guy who lived nearby and was taking his regular weekly visit to the restaurant.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
