Day 26 – part 2 –

more Friulian folklore..

Il Gjani – (photo 2) is characterful and friendly – loves to sleep in a bed made of moss in the shelter of the old trunks of fallen trees; a great friend of the mountain inhabitants.

L’Omenut da Ploja – (photo 3) wear a green hat and red tailcoat and can be seen playing the violin on certain evenings. His music is bewitching and all who hear it, human and otherwise, are forced to dance.

Gli Abitanti Del Bosco – (photo 4) or the Boborosso, is one of the nastiest of the Sbilfs, absorbed in causing nightmares to children.

Unsurprisingly, there is a craft brewery in the area, who’s beers I have yet to trace, Dimont brewery, who name their beers after the Sbilfs.

I was keen for somewhere quiet to stop for the night. It’s a holiday weekend here, but really none of the campsites open up until the snow goes, most likely mid-June. Quite a few of the bars and restaurants are closed also. It’s a break for them after the skiing finished, and before the summer starts. Suits me though, as there are very few visitors, one of the few places I have been where I haven’t seen any other campervans or motorhomes for a couple of days now.

I found a place close to an alpine pass, a tennis club car park just out of the town of Danta di Cadore.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
