Day 1 – to Brill

So it begins again. Another course. 63 days home, to attend to a few van matters, body matters (me and the dog), and a wee bit of planning..but not too much.

A temporary title for now, from the Danish philosopher Kierkegaard.. translated roughly as ‘it is solved by walking’. I’m hoping that refers to Su Dokus also..

The plan very approximately is to head into Sweden, and manage that careful balancing act between mosquito season and winter; 3 weeks or so to get up to Luleå, at the north of the Gulf of Bothnia. That’s the Arctic Circle, or Lapland as it’s know by some. The. Some time in Finland before heading up the the very far north, and then a very slow southerly motion, tracking the winter as it arrives.

I’m in Brill again tonight, which really is a fantastic stop over. At the weekend I thought it might be better to head directly to Kent and start the queuing, but it seems they’ve eased. Brill is 15 minutes max from the M40, close to Aylesbury, but elevated on a Common, at 200 metres asl. It’s pleasantly cool, and surprisingly quiet. Vans can stay in the windmill car park, just across from the Pheasant Inn. I’m the only van.. again.. 30 March here, it snowed most of the night. The pub is a treat, guest beers, which tonight were really good, and excellent food, pork belly on special. I’m aware, tonight, and possibly tomorrow, will really be the only chance to eat or drink out on this course, at least until returning.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
