Day 24 – to Renholmen
I mentioned yesterday that the overnight temperature would stay relatively high, and it was more than expected, up at 21C, conditions ideal for mosquitos, and a few had managed to overcome my defences and get into the van. They took some locating and eliminating. That tell take blood smear once flattened is never a good sight to see. I need to learn from experience, so far it’s been the humid conditions they revel in, hopefully I’ll be better prepared next time..
All around were storms, but they didn’t hit the little peninsula I was on. In sultry conditions we explored the Järnäsudden Nature Reserve. The feature here are the weathered and smooth rocky outcrops that attract a variety of birds, 93 species stop here during migration.

In the early afternoon with the Lords Test Match on the radio, I drove north for three hours, passing the town of Umeå, aiming for the area just north of Skellefteå.
I’m camped just outside the village of Renholmen. Typical of many villages, they take great pride in their beach area. Though for many villages this is a lake, here it is the Gulf, but it forms a natural harbour here. There is an old settlement that has a historic trail with a hand drawn map, that I will look in more detail at tomorrow. The camp area has toilets, rubbish bins, a barbeque area, and a sauna. Another van pulled in just a few minutes ago, but the rain has come on heavily, so I doubt we will do much more than exchange nods.
