Day 61 – to Mo I Rana

The promised rain materialised overnight and at 250 metres above sea level the cloud was close as I opened the curtain and made a plan for the next hours.

After Roja’s breakfast and my coffee I settled in for a reading session, a Finnish writer living just over the Swedish border writing about Norway.. a good mix, and an excellent novel, Lars Sund’s A Good and Happy Island (review over at GR). Usually I read for an hour at this time of the day, but with the percussion sound of the rain on the roof continuing that became two. Eventually I gave up staring back at the dog, put some kit on and took the path to the Bredek waterfall. Waterfalls on wet days are usually at their best, as was Bredek, though the descent down to it was tricky in muddy conditions.

It was always going to be a quiet day. I had a plan to go in towards Svartisen glacier in the afternoon but with the only change in the weather being lower cloud and heavier rain I shelved that, and headed up above the town of Mo I Rana to its ski area. Up here there is a strong 4G signal and I settled in to watch the cricket from Karachi and the Rugby Premiership.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
