I read Motorman a few years back and really enjoyed it, but it’s taken me a while to get back to Ohle. It might be that he isn’t as popular in Europe, I notice that none of my GR community has read him. He is very much my sort of humour, a twisted brilliance, dry humour that is dark, nasty and oppressive.

There are three novella length stories here, and they’re all good. They are darker than Motorman, and with much more subtle humour. They revolve around thwarted wealth, or desire for it, and the indifference of the universe to suffering.
As the title suggests, the stories are cinematic. If I had to pick a favourite though, it would be the title story, more flagrantly insane than the other two, a tale involving motorcross, aliens, and parallel universes.
A reminder to myself to read the Ohle follow ups to Motorman, and not leave it years (again).. and to recommend him to others who like a degree of psychotic disorientation to their reading occasionally.
My GoodReads score 4 / 5
