I read a lot of horror, though only the occasional short story from Thomas Liggoti, and I am on a mission to remedy that, especially having completed this.

The 9 to 5 of a corporate office is generally depicted as boring, though both Rick Gervais’s series, and its US version throw a different light on it. As does this.
Though there is always a hint of dark humour this depicts the dangers of working in an office, in that an employee may get so wound up by their colleagues that they may head off on a killing spree.
My review is concentrating on the novel in this book, with the same title, though there are two other short stories, one of which is similarly themed, the other, just a bit of humour.
Liggoti’s warped mind appeals to me. In this send up of bereaucracy as the protagonist seeks revenge against the six other employees, the way he dispatches them gets more horrific and ridiculous. It becomes very 70s Hammer Horror, and puts me in mind of the best of Grady Hendrix, who I guess, was influenced by Liggoti.

My GoodReads score 4 / 5

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
