Back at Shap

I’ve been back in Shap for a few weeks now enjoying some unseasonably dry hills, all that much better with a new hip. It has hardly rained in that time with the weather trapped under high pressure, the odd sunny day, but windless, attracting mist frequently, fantastic when you can get above it.

Familiar territory.. Knipe Scar
And back on Loadpot Hill, Potty Time.. my 48th ascent Strava tells me, but the first for almost three years due to bad hip..
One hill over, Wether summit
Robin Hood’s Grave above Orton.. Cumbria has a claim to the legend also

Roja has been reunited with his cousin Mac, and though there is no show of affection on seeing each other, it is clear they enjoy each other’s company. There’s a new dog around at the Lodge also, a four month old female German Pointer, Rudi, who is also a pile of fun.

Rudi.. stop that messing around..

Other than seeing family and friends I had a trip up to Hexham for a follow up appointment on the hip, and managed two wonderful outings on Hadrian’s Wall.

At the highest point on the wall.. what the Romans have done for us..

My plans are to be on the road again on 3rd January, down to the south coast via a couple of stops at friends and to France with Brittany Ferries once the prices settle after the Christmas madness. This is likely to be just a three month trip, getting back to Cumbria for mid-April. I will then work at the Lodge a couple of days a week for the summer season, during which I plan to sell this van, but another and get it built into a camper. Exciting times.. as ever..

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
