93 km (58 miles) – Total so far: 685 km (426 miles)
Written at Truro, busy city centre in the Split Crow bar mid Sunday afternoon. I’m pretty much finished for the day, but will need to get some km out of town to camp. Tourist Office not awfully helpful when I asked. Suspect I will ned to go 4 or 5 km east.
Last night’s camping spot was of an extremely high quality. Plenty of signs warned of “no camping” and “closed at 8 pm” around the old lighthouse, but the area on the cliffs beyond was perfect. A good wind so no mosquitos, and a great view across the estuary. Earlier the evening at the Walton Pub had been interesting, a very local pub.
After coffee at the Fire Station as part of their fund-raising weekend it was the continuation of the Glooscap Trail; an hour’s ride to Noel and another hour to Maitland. Fine weather but cloudy and into a breeze but certainly not hot. After a brief stop in Maitland on to Truro. Truro was much bigger than I expected, and at the freeway junction it looks like an American town with every fast food place you could name. In downtown though it is quieter and pleasant.
Distance – 93 kilometres Max Speed – 63.6 km / hr Moving time 4 hrs 26 mins Moving Average 20.0 km / hr Departed 9:45 am, Arrived Truro 2:10 pm and watched some little league baseball and read for a while. Went campsite hunting (two options, back of baseball field or nehind the elementary school) and found a decent bar, Keggers Ale – just above average.

Camp site, just on the cliffs behind the lighthouse
Recommended to future riders, but it does say No Camping on gate, so be quiet going last the house – fantastic place tough

Bright morning

Fire Department fundraising weekend – coffee and juice

Water stop at Maitland

View across the Shubenacadie River – famous here for its tidal bore, but at low tide at this time

Luckily they have their own Keggers Ale on, a light IPA
