Day 30: Norway to Portland

76 km (47 miles) – Total so far: 2,650 km (1,647 miles)

The life and soul of downtown Norway is The Trolley Rooms, a new bar which has only been open for a few months. It has great food, a selection of about 10 draft local ales, notably including Sebago IPA and porter, and great company. The owner was a cyclist himself and had follow the Tour a couple of years at, so there was plenty to talk about.

I was confident that it wasn’t uphill all the way to the ocean coast, but at ikea during the morning I thought my map reading may be wrong. Up,to the plains of Oxford, and up after them. But these hills were like others, they climbed and climbed until the top, then sloped away. I followed route 26 which was busy in places, but much less so after crossing I-95.

Into Portland following the bike tracks, and easily found the Inn at St John. This place was recommended to me by bloggers on CGOAB and is excellent. It is a good location also, near to Gorham Bike and Ski which I will visit shortly and get a box to dismantle the bike, and half a mile also from the Portland Transportation Centre where I will get a Concord bus to Logan airport tomorrow afternoon. It’s just a 2 hour bus ride. Portland isn’t a big place, so I will endeavour to discover a couple of decent pubs later and report back of course.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
