Day 29 – Gmunden to Rohrbach

66 miles (106 km) – Total so far: 1,299 miles (2,091 km)

Saturday was a bad day for me to arrive in Traunsee. Not only was it busy but also, there was an air show on. The noise was vast.
I was pleased to get away at 8 this morning and into the centre of town for an expensive croissant and coffee, then on the road…

The first 60 kilometres were pleasant and easy riding. The odd up, but making my way down to the Danube, lots of flat.
A quiet Sunday morning with lots of locals out for a bike ride.

Bad Wimsbach – a spa health resort with Oktoberfest on this weekend. It’s not even 10 in the morning and everyone has beers.

Fruit laden trees – looks like lots will be wasted.

Lunch on the Danube.

My route followed the Danube for about 15 kilometres, as it goes into a gorge and the bike path on the right (north) side of the river finishes and a sign says call the ferryman.

…but there’s an MTB path up through the forest steeply, 20% at least for a while, so it’s a combination of pushing and riding.

Having gained a very quick 200 metres in height its Upper Austria, and mountain biking country.
For most of the afternoon the route I had planned took me on a combination of tracks, single track and small farm roads. Spectacular riding.

To the town of Rohrbach, where I’m based for the night, an AirBnB apartment reduced to 18 euros.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
