Day 30 – Rohrbach (Austria) to Lojzova Paseka (Czech Republic)

26 miles (42 km) – Total so far: 1,325 miles (2,132 km)

9 o’clock start today after the bakery in Rohrbach town.
I’ve just a short ride over the hills into Czech Republic.

Despite its short length today was a tremendous day of cycling.
Picture postcard Austrian countryside and villages on paths and small roads with the very occasional vehicle.

Up to just short of 800 metres asl, the last village of Upper Austria, St Oswalds.
A mix of new architecture and the old traditional style, but it does seem there’s some money around.

This border is not possible for cars.
From St Oswald it’s tracks for about 5 kilometres.
This sculpture at the land between the two border signs, the plug and socket. Which I guess could be interpreted in several ways.
It must have been very different in Iron Curtain days, but no evidence of that here now.

Forested bike routes which seem very popular on the Czech side, with mountain bikes and road bikes. This is Livno Lake, and not actually my first time here.
I worked in Prague in 2005-6 and led an outdoor ed trip not far from here.

There’s a bike ferry to the town of Frymburk.

And I’m staying just over a small hill in a village of about 5 houses and a penzion. Very peaceful, and the beer is pretty good.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
