ALTDay 2 – To Glentrool
28th April
It only took a couple of hours to get the van sorted. The electrical problem was the digital readout on the wall, which, for now, has been disconnected. It’s not really necessary as the same information comes to an app on the iPad. The problem had meant the system was not only not changing, but realising that it was doing so, and shutting itself off.
A couple of hours on the local hill, or rather mound, Yewbarrow, then back up to Glentrool, via Wigtown, a place I had been looking forward to visiting for sometime.
Wigtown is famous for its book festival, and second-hand bookshops, especially The Bookshop, whose owner is an author himself, and it claims to be the largest second hand bookshop in Scotland. I had been in touch to check it was okay, in these days of restrictions, to browse with dog, and indeed it was, despite the resident cat. In fact whereas as some establishments are still one person in at a time, they weren’t at all fussed here. It was a very enjoyable couple of hours.
Onto Glentrool, a few miles north, and I decided upon luxury, and stayed at the campsite. With just a few others vans, it was tempting, and pleasantly situated. Though the £17 fee had neglected that neither hot water of WiFi were working (not that I needed either), but would have been welcome.
Pleasant evening dinner of salmon, though not warm enough to be sat outside after 7 pm; by then it was just 4C.
