Day 9 – To Kilchoan, Ardnamurchan

Day 9 – To Kilchoan, Ardnamurchan

Wednesday 5th May

Though the storm has gone through we are left with heavy wintery showers, a cool northerly and cold, less than 5C. The mountain forecast for Lochaber said to expect windchill of up to -20 on the tops…

We were away from Ardgour slowly, and the road from there is also a slow one, and splendidly scenic. It’s single track for much of it, but really quite empty right now, so a pleasure to travel on. We stopped at the Garbh Ailean Wildlife Hide and got out the binoculars, but saw only a couple of oyster catchers. There are otters here, and of course seals, but stood outside the Inn last night we were treated to several of them playing around the ferry each time it came in.

We’ve taken a campsite here, partly because of its location, just across the Sound of Mull from Tobermory, and also it’s very cheap, as they can’t currently offer any facilities. It’s good to chat with some of the other campers also, though it’s very quiet.

From the photo it looks idyllic, and indeed mostly is, just the rush back inside when the snow and hail come..

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
