Day 28 – To Laxford Bridge
Sunday 23rd May
Cloudless first thing this morning and not surprisingly the temperature had dropped to just above zero in the early hours. Certainly a spectacular place to stay.
On the two miles to Kylesku and the A road we passed several vans, and also a group of families with several young children in tents just at the side of the road. There are no toilet facilities at all, and I couldn’t see that they had anything suitable with them.
It’s a Sunday so there’s plenty of walkers. I was originally going to head up Quinag, but the car park was full, and it looked very busy. The car park at The Bone Caves was blocked by a motorhome that had its wheels spinning and was stuck. In the end I parked at Inchnadamph and headed up to the Conival ridge. It’s a walk I’ve done several times before, but a good one. Last time was 4 years ago in sleet / snow of early April, there was some wind today, but pretty good conditions all in all.

After a late lunch I drove north through Kylesku and Scourie. The residents here have ‘no camping’ signs pretty much everywhere, and the only site, at Scourie, was full, and is so for the next month. Not that I wanted it. My plan was to get off the NC500 route at Laxford Bridge, which I did, and within a couple of miles there were plenty of off road parkover options.
