Day 23 – to Hornos

Day 23 – to Hornos

Just a half hour or so if driving today that got me to a Refugio El Campillo on the GR 247 and the start of a footpath up El Yelmo peak.

It was another great hike, and if anything a bit better than yesterday, as a bit more challenging and steep.

I had another good chat with the guy at the Casa de Vigilancia. I asked about the eagle circling high above us, and he told me it was a Spanish Imperial Eagle, one of 9 or 10 he sees regularly.

The last photo looks down at Hornos village, where I was to be later.

A fire officer is based here even in the winter, as the hills still attract quite a few people. I had a nose inside the little cabin..

I stayed high to spend the afternoon sheltering from the sun; it got to 30C. Then descended to Hornos to spend the night. I thought I’d eat out, as I haven’t for a while, and Andalusia has such a good name for food. Unfortunately, it was Monday and the three restaurants were closed, so it was fried rice..

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
