Day 78 – to La Seu d’Urgell

Day 78 – to La Seu d’Urgell

It was a quiet Sunday on the superb road winding west to east on the south side of the Pyrenees, through Fiscal, Ainsa, El Pont de Suert, several times going over high passes. It would not be so enjoyable to drive this when it was busy, most of the climbing and descending is at 20 mph, perhaps less.

On one of the passes, Bonansa, we took a couple of hours to hike a track, walking for some time with unsuccessful mushroom hunters. The pass at Bonansa has a three kilometre route for wheelchair users also, something I’ve not seen in the UK.

Just before dark we arrived in La Seu d’Urgell, famous these days as it was the venue for the outdoor adventure sports of the Barcelona Olympics, kayaking, road cycling and MTB. It was also our first port of call 17 years ago, on Bike Spain, coming from Andorra. There is an area for campervans, which has a dozen or so vans in it. On such a pleasant November evening, we took an hour to walk around the town before setting down, and enjoying a movie, what may well be my best film of the year, Last Night In Soho.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
