Day 15 – at Utanc, Lake Bohinj
I had originally planned to leave this morning, but the weather was fine again, and whilst sat in the morning sun with coffee and a book, I decided to stay. I’ve had the first two days for free at this site, and it does open officially today, though the only facility will be a temporary toilet cabin while the new block is finished. Suddenly the place fills up.. it is after all Easter weekend coming, though Friday’s weather is supposed to be rainy.
My nearby neighbours in their self converted van are good fun to chat to. The guy, Luis, is from Spain and his partner, Ana, Austria. They are on the road for a few months at least. Luis has been showing off his packraft, which I am very tempted by. It’s ideal in a place like this – packs up to about 10 litres, and weighs about 10 kgs. I wonder what the dog would make of it.
I’ve a flare up of sciatica today, so headed out on the bike. It’s not that bad really, but need to make an effort to get off the feet more. I ride very steadily, as Roja still likes to lead the way, and we headed up the track to the waterfall, Slap Savica. There were a few people hiking, many tourists on day bus trips from Ljubljana, some British students interrailing, so it does seem travel is steadily getting back to normal.
I returned and a young British couple were in their covered Sprinter next to me. Though with 180,000 miles on it, it was new to them, and no doubt, being Mercedes, will go on for many years yet. They were on their first trip, so very excited – though yet more people from UK frustrated by Brexit and the 90 day limit.
It’s getting warmer by the day, up to 22C this afternoon, and pretty much cloudless all day. It’s T-shirt and shorts now.
