Day 36 – at Küblisbühli, Flühli

There are three parking areas within 3 kilometres, and after tonight I will have stayed in each of them. Madness; why move? Change of scenery I guess. Change of noise, there’s fast flowing water in each of them from the Emme river, but most of all at this last one, which is next to a 30 metre waterfall. Also, this last one has huge and solidly built wooden tables, and I was keen to set up the new outdoor oven this afternoon, but that was not to be.

I’m aware of doing too much with the dog, so it was just an hour out on foot this morning, up a track into the forest, disturbing the deer, who no doubt he sees, and I only hear.

Then I took the bike out. Though the nerve issues in the leg I have under control on foot, they still give me a problem on the bike – but I think I need to ride through it. I didn’t look hard at my route selection, just followed the BikePacking route through the area, which looks fantastic. But it was steep, climbing 400 metres on a track with loose rock, so a good test. It got me to 1380 metres, in drizzly and showery rain. Though not far in distance it was a good 75 minutes out.

Back at the van for late lunch, and the weather turned to become much heavier and thundery showers, merging mostly into longer periods of rain. The outdoor oven had to wait, and I got on with some reading. The weather not only today but the next couple of days also is forecast to be wet. It’s that time of year I guess..

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
