Day 43 – to Burbia

Day 43 – to Burbia

I’ve continued up a 12 kilometre cul-de-sac into the Sierra de Ancares mountains to a remote village called Burbia.

It’s school holidays now, so there are a few families around, most of which are based here all year.

I’m stopped up by the village football pitch, so quite a few have been up kicking a ball around during the day.

Activity wise, it was a quite morning. I had stomach cramps overnight and all morning, which I’m putting down to the water somewhere, probably in Villafranca which was lower altitude and a big town. Up in the mountains the water is excellent.

I did get out for a few hours in the afternoon though, after some lunch. I hadn’t eaten last night or this morning.

The village is on a long distance MTB or hiking route called La Mirada Circular. I’ve had an eye on this for a while now, and will be on or around the route for the next couple of weeks. It’s website is here.. https://lamiradacircular.com

Burbia has an excellent range of outdoor opportunities. These mountains have a few villages at the end of steep and winding roads into them. The roads aren’t in good condition and I think many tourists don’t take them on. There’s a closed down camping here, that still advertises as always open, but looks like it’s been closed for a couple of years, a victim of the pandemic perhaps. Motorhomes or caravans wouldn’t get up here.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
