Day 46 – to the Ancares Pass (1669 metres)

Day 46 – to the Ancares Pass (1669 metres)

My business this morning centred around sorting what was needed for the Easter weekend, as shops close this afternoon until Tuesday in most cases.

Job One – water fill up..

Job Two – take out the trash

Job Three – supermarket stock up. At the sedate town of Vega de Espinareda. Sedate today maybe, but not so this weekend I suspect.

With that done I headed back up into the mountains. A 50 kilometre drive to get me to about 10 kilometres, as the crow flies if indeed it does take a straight line, from where I was this morning.

Another ‘spot-the-van’ opportunity..

The Ancares Pass here makes an excellent base for taking the Bierzo mountain ridge in either direction, and on arrival, the dog and I headed east towards the Miravalles peak, not actually getting there, but in a three hour round trip, taking in three other peaks. It’s spectacular views throughout, though slow going, as if it actually mattered..

Looking down on Baluta village..

I did consider moving on in the late afternoon as the wind got up a bit, but I do enjoy stopping for nights at high passes. It will be cold, but that doesn’t really bother me, and the wind has dropped again. There have been a few people around during the day, but the number is dwindling.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
