Day 57 – to the Cobertoria pass

Day 57 – to the Cobertoria pass

I moved around the north side of the National Park this morning on another fine day. The road is slow, but empty of traffic, as it weaves through the Teverga river canyon, vast sheer walls of rock, much of it gets very little sun, so this morning was stuck below 5C, I would guess for the whole day.

Once emerging though, through the village of Barzana the road climbs, as does the temperature.

I was headed for the Cobertoria pass at 1130 metres. From here, I hoped I could get up a rough track to the north, and from images online and seen a potential pasture to park up at. The climb up the loose stone wasn’t easy, but just possible, and I was rewarded with one of the finest places to spend a day and night. I could look down on the road at the pass below, but there was next to no traffic, so hardly a surprise when I saw no one all day.

We hiked out, and back the same way, on GR106, just for two and a half hours. I had planned not to do so much today, as I had some business this afternoon.

There is a mountain refuge just a couple of kilometres up the track, in a magnificent setting, photo below.

Later in the evening the dog and I took a stroll, and spotted this old shepherd’s hut, the first I have seen that has been renovated. It does look well done..

After a leisurely lunch I spent the afternoon, and into the evening on the laptop, outside with the spectacular views in all directions over the mountains.

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
