Day 83 – at Col de Serre

Day 83 – at Col de Serre

There was a lot of rain overnight. This morning the Col was in thick cloud, but gradually it started to clear. Though the heavy showers kept coming.

I had in mind a loop that took in Puy de Niermont at 1620 metres. The ascent was straightforward, up a track for most of the 5 kilometres, though once above 1400 metres, in cloud. At the summit there was a hail shower, and no views at all, but as we descended, the cloud began to clear.

After such an amount of rain clearing cloud and mist is spectacular, and today was particularly special. Though the showers continued, the views were much appreciated. The return route was on a much smaller path that didn’t look like it had had much use for a while. With the heavy rain quite a few sections were washed out with mud and small stones. It was slow going.

We got back to the van after three and a half hours out, and being Sunday, I had left late, at midday. Generally I don’t rise on Sunday until 9, though often have the radio on before that. Saturday night is usually a late one. I watched The Handmaiden, and this morning finished the Crawford book I was reading, but I’ll report on both in the next few days.

Back at the van for a very late lunch, and a lengthy heavy shower, more than an hour, set in. But, after the Premiership semi final, and the great win for Sale, the cloud cleared for a couple of hours of sun, a good time to take an evening stroll..

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
