Temperatures in Trondheim hit 28C this afternoon. I’m not far away, out on one of the islands, Frøya, about a hundred kilometres to the west, and at the far west of the island, and it’s a bit cooler, a maximum or about 24C. Though this weather is rare over the long term, it’s become a lot more common in the last few years. It’s set to last as well, with no sign of any rain in the forecast, though it will be cooler at the weekend, with a stronger northeasterly wind.

These are great conditions for outdoor activity, about as warm as I would want it. This rocky headland, provides spectacular viewing in a storm or with a high tide, but also on a day like today, when the rock is dry and it’s easier to walk on them. I researched the best possible route to take this landscape on last night, and found a trail that wove its way in between the rock pools, though Roja obviously doesn’t bother about them and simply swims across, to get to an isolated and wild viewpoint. Red dots on the rocks mark the way, otherwise it would be very slow going indeed, with lots of backtracking.

There’s very few people around, just a handful of residents in the town, many houses are derelict, and a few are summer or weekend homes. There are notably less renovations here than in other places I have been, probably because it’s more difficult to get to. There was a couple walking the same trail as me that I met on the way back. They weren’t confident the trail of red dots went anywhere, and actually it doesn’t, it’s an out and back route, though its terminus is a point well worth reaching. They were an older couple, my age I’d guess, from the north of Norway, and on old-fashioned camping trip, by which I mean one with tents. I haven’t seen many of that sort of traveller recently. They had cycled to where the path left the rough road, whereas I had walked, which made my excursion quite lengthy, more than I had calculated. I had left just after 10:30 am, and the total distance was about 16 kilometres, which took about 4 hours.

Here’s a short documentary I filmed while out..
That set me late for my one afternoon of work each month, which I had forgotten to do yesterday, so the rest of the afternoon was spent in the shade getting through that.
