Non-fiction – Travel – Published August 2025

It wouldn’t be difficult to criticise Rajesh’s work; most of her journeys and excursions in the places she explores are financially far beyond the majority of her readers, and I don’t think such a piece of travel writing is the place to air her politics (though I agree with much of it..)… but.. she writes very well about her romantic ideal of travelling between cities at night.

I have travelled all of my adult life. Night trains I have taken have been in second or third class. I will never travel any of these routes, and was doubtful coming into the book, but I have to admit, it really is perfect armchair travel.

My GoodReads score 4 / 5

Quote of the Week

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, ‘What road do I take?’ The cat asked, ‘Where do you want to go?’ ‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered. ‘Then,’ said the cat, ‘it really doesn’t matter, does it?’
